Workforce Development Instructor - Part-time

About the role

Missouri Western State University is seeking workforce development instructors to teach continuing education courses on an as-needed basis in the fields of leadership, Lean, construction/industrial technology, IT certifications, mechanical technician training and electrical technician training. This position may require day or evening and face-to-face instruction. This position is part-time and will only teach non-credit programs.

About Missouri Western and the Houlne Center

Missouri Western State University (MWSU) and North Central Missouri College (NCMC) are collaborating to grow the region’s skilled manufacturing and construction workforce with Missouri Western’s newly constructed Houlne Center for Convergent Technology. The Center delivers practical, applied learning instruction in skilled manufacturing and construction professions as well as innovative service technologies – like AI, robotics, GIS, sensor technologies, information technology and cybersecurity – that drive those sectors and others. The Center is home both to a broad range of certificate and degree programs as well as offering targeted workforce training, designed to meet the needs of incumbent workers.

Responsibilities

• Take attendance
• Be present for all scheduled training or classroom hours
• Be available for student inquiries via email or telephone and respond in a timely and professional manner
• Present the subject matter curriculum in its entirety within the time frame allotted
• Instruct the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus, catalog and/or other published outline of the program content
• Show respect to all students and participants at all times
• Dress in a business casual and professional manner at all times
• Work creatively in all assigned programs to keep students engaged to assist in increasing student retention and success
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level
• Abide by all applicable university academic and employment policies identified in the employee handbooks and academic catalogs

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s degree with 2+ years industry-specific experience, or
• 5+ years of industry experience
• Proficiency in the area of study, including proof of certifications and qualifications where applicable

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
• The ability to confidently present subject matter knowledge and feel comfortable presenting in front of groups of people
• The ability to relate curriculum with appropriate real-world experience
• Comfortable using a laptop with Microsoft and Google applications including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive and Google Docs

Physical Demands

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Additional Demands

This position may require evening or weekend hours of work.

Schedule

Limited teaching engagements throughout the year for workforce development. Possible days, evenings or weekends.
