About the role
The Workers' Compensation (WC) Case Manager plays a pivotal role in efficiently managing the lifecycle of workers' compensation cases, acting as a liaison between medical providers, vendors, attorneys, and clients. The Case Manager ensures seamless and timely communication and documentation using Case Management Software while providing exceptional client service throughout the client's case.
Responsibilities
- Manage up to 150 cases, organizing all case-related correspondence and documents from clients, courts, and opposing counsel, ensuring timely responses and comprehensive documentation.
- Oversee cases from inception to resolution, including handling disbursements.
- Calendar court deadlines, attorney meetings, service and response deadlines, and update the calendar with hearings, client meetings, and mediations.
- Oversee the collection, summarization, and maintenance of medical records and bills in preparation for mediations and hearings, ensuring all relevant records are organized and accessible.
- Maintain an ongoing list of unpaid medical expenses.
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and proactively with clients regarding discovery requests, case updates, strategic developments, medical treatment, and benefits.
- Draft, review, and proofread correspondence, discovery responses, motions, affidavits, and other legal documents.
- File forms and legal documents with the North Carolina Industrial Commission, including e-filing, and manage service-of-process for legal documents and summonses in compliance with Commission rules.
- Track and manage all deadlines, including discovery timelines, responses to motions, and mediations.
- Coordinate and schedule mediations and meetings with clients.
- Prepare and supplement responses to discovery requests in a timely and accurate manner while ensuring compliance with case-specific needs and timelines.
- Review case files for completeness, identify missing documents, and ensure the accuracy and proper filing of all case-related materials.
- Perform administrative tasks such as copying, scanning, mailing, filing, and other projects as needed to support efficient case management.
- Handle depositions, hearings, and pre-trial tasks (preferred).
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study preferred.
- Paralegal Certification or relevant studies preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years' recent experience in North Carolina Workers' Compensation case management, preferably as a case manager or paralegal, or in a similar capacity in a law firm (personal injury law firm experience preferred).
- At least one (1) year of demonstrated experience utilizing case management software.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and client service skills, with the ability to de-escalate and handle client concerns.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities, with keen attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of case management.
- Ability to operate both independently and as part of a team.
- Exceptional organizational skills and time-management capabilities, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage a high caseload.
- Fluency in English; bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred.
- Strong proficiency in utilizing case management software and office technology.
Schedule
Full-Time | Monday - Friday | 8:30am - 5:00pm
