Miller Johnson is seeking a Workers’ Compensation Attorney to join our Medical Recovery Practice Group in our Grand Rapids office. This is a unique opportunity to work on the healthcare provider side of workers’ compensation, representing healthcare systems in recovering and managing claims.
Responsibilities
- Manage a high-volume caseload of workers’ compensation matters on behalf of healthcare providers
- Represent clients at hearings across West Michigan, including Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Okemos
- Counsel hospitals and healthcare systems on claim strategy, recovery, and compliance
- Communicate with insurance carriers and adjusters, including drafting requests for reconsideration relating to payment disputes
- Communicate regularly with insurance companies, third-party administrators, and client stakeholders
- Conduct legal research and prepare written analyses related to workers’ compensation issues
- Track and manage case activity, including maintaining organized records and utilizing basic data tools (e.g., Excel)
- Work collaboratively with attorneys and staff while maintaining ownership of assigned matters
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission (or eligibility for admission) to the Michigan Bar
- 1–5 years of legal experience preferred; workers’ compensation experience is a plus but not required
- Open to candidates with backgrounds in workers’ compensation, insurance defense, employment law, or general litigation
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Strong work ethic with a proactive, “roll-up-your-sleeves” mindset
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with clients and external stakeholders
- Willingness to work in-office in Grand Rapids
