Work Study Tutor and Mentor

Job Summary

TheTRIOUpward Bound Program at the University of Utah is seeking talented, experienced Tutors to assist in the delivery of an after-school tutoring program to high school students between grades 9 and 12, within the Salt Lake and Granite School Districts.

Responsibilities

• Meet students at their high school and on campus to review homework assignments in the applicable subject area
• Review recent homework assignments and test scores, then work through problems or questions that the student did not answer correctly
• Give short presentations on monthly theme, lead activities related to theme, and lead discussions with students on the theme
• Employ proven study aides to prepare for upcoming tests and quizzes
• Complete a short debrief form after 1-1 tutoring with students to track progress
• Afford support to students by organizing group activities for students who are studying the same material
• Afford support to students by promoting a supportive environment for all positive role models and representatives of theTRIOoffice

Candidate Needs

• High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required
• The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Background check

Preferences

• Prefrence given to those in STEM majors
• Must be a responsible individual with good interpersonal skills who enjoys working with students from diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds
• Willing to commit 15 hours per week (Including some Saturday mornings)
• Have reliable transportation and be willing to transport students in University vehicles if necessary, take and pass state driving exam
