About the role

We’re looking for an experienced WordPress back-end developer to fix and strengthen an existing subscription-content setup that uses MemberPress for subscriptions and paywalled articles, with SiteGround caching enabled. The role involves addressing edge cases in a two‑article meter paywall, ensuring server‑side access control works correctly with caching and cookies, updating structured data/schema for gated content, and integrating four supplied page designs into the existing WordPress theme without breaking current functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and fix paywall/meter issues related to SiteGround full‑page caching and client‑side cookie tampering.
  • Implement a server‑side solution that prevents bypassing the two‑article limit via cookie manipulation.
  • Ensure paywall/metering behavior is correctly reflected in the site’s structured data/schema for search engines.
  • Test the solution across scenarios: new visitors, first/second free articles, paywall reach, cookie modification/removal, cached vs. uncached requests, logged‑in/subscribed users, different browsers/incognito sessions.
  • Install and integrate four supplied page designs (HTML/CSS/assets) into the existing WordPress site, making necessary back‑end/template adjustments.
  • Maintain compatibility with the current MemberPress subscription flow and existing theme/plugins.
  • Perform thorough testing before considering the work complete.

Requirements

  • Strong WordPress/PHP back‑end experience.
  • Experience with MemberPress or similar membership/paywall systems.
  • Good understanding of WordPress cookies and authentication/session logic.
  • Experience troubleshooting SiteGround or full‑page caching.
  • Understanding of structured data/schema for paywalled content.
  • Ability to work with existing WordPress code rather than rebuilding unnecessarily.
  • Comfort implementing supplied HTML/CSS/page designs.
  • Strong attention to security and edge cases.
  • Ability to test changes thoroughly before considering the work complete.

Skills

  • WordPress development (PHP, hooks, templates).
  • MemberPress integration and customization.
  • Cookie handling and server‑side access control.
  • Full‑page caching mechanisms (SiteGround, Varnish, etc.).
  • Structured data markup (Schema.org) for paywalled content.
  • HTML/CSS implementation of supplied designs.
  • Debugging and testing across browsers and caching states.
