Bench Carpenter
General contractor with full service shop working on residential and commercial projects.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret plans and shop drawings
- Maintain a work-space to produce the jobs in a timely and orderly manner
- Absorb new ideas and skills
- Teach others new skills
- Update daily job log
- Enter hours by job and task daily
- Note when glue, fasteners, or disposables are low or out and add them to the job list
- Set up work area with tools and supplies needed
- Check that electric tools have sharp blades, bits, abrasives, are ready to use, etc.
- Check plans to find special hardware needs
- Glue, fasteners, and disposables
- Have shop drawings and plans at work area
- Note any questions about assembly and install
- Collect all reference material needed- install instructions, MSDS sheets, etc.
- Set up a white board with a check list for tasks, materials, schedule
- Maintain tools
- Check saws, routers, planers, jointers, etc. blades and bits should be sharp and ready to use
- Specialty drill bits are available and in good condition
- Clamps and tables are clean and available
- Weekly and monthly maintenance on shop tools
- Clean, oil, grease as needed
- Change blades and bits when dirty or dull
- Put tools that need sharpening in “sharpening” pile
- Clean dirty blades and bits
- Make sure all tools are put away at the end of each day
- Mill and cut product
- Cut or process parts as needed for cabinets, furniture, etc.
- Edgebanding or face frame install on parts or cabinets
- Assemble boxes to be square and plumb
- Install doors, drawers, hardware, and adjust
- Set up toe kicks to assemble cabinet assemblies as they will fit to be adjusted correctly and find any problems
- Post-process parts from the CNC
- Quality control of parts and assembly
- Be on time and ready to work
- Keep track of time and projects
- Wear your apron or bags
