Wood Model Maker

About the role

We are looking for a Wood Model Maker in our Prototype Wood Model Shop (Concept Tooling). The candidate will build rough stock for CNC machines, hand build parts, and finish sand and coat models for lamination or Vacuum forming.

Responsibilities

• Build rough stock for CNC machines
• Hand build parts
• Finish sand and coat models for lamination or vacuum forming
• Glue up stock in preparation for CNC machine
• Square a base
• Build a perfect plank base
• Flatten stock for mounting
• Drill holes in stock
• Drill and countersink holes in base
• Thorough understanding of CNC milling processes

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Minimum of one year of relevant experience
• Journeyman Wood Model Maker

Skills

• Working knowledge of planners, jointers, band saws, table saws, and other woodworking machinery
• Able to read 2D and 3D drawings
• Able to create model from 3D drawing
• Working knowledge of fiberglass & carbon fiber lamination process
• Proper use and type of sandpaper
• Proper use and type of wood filler
• Able to read height gages, calipers and use scribe tools
• Proper use of spray gun for application of sanding sealer

Qualifications

• 5 years of model building experience
• Able to laminate and trim fiberglass and carbon fiber parts
• Exposed to urethane mold making
