Model Maker
About the role
The Model Maker supports the rapid fabrication and iteration of prototype parts and assemblies for vehicle development projects. They collaborate with prototyping teammates and internal clients to understand project requirements, timelines, and risks, prioritize and complete work in a fast-paced prototyping environment, communicate project updates, fabrication constraints, and timing expectations clearly and professionally, operate and support fabrication equipment and processes, perform fabrication and finishing tasks, and maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused shop environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the rapid fabrication and iteration of prototype parts and assemblies for vehicle development projects.
- Collaborate with prototyping teammates and internal clients to understand project requirements, timelines, and risks.
- Prioritize and complete work in a fast-paced prototyping environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Communicate project updates, fabrication constraints, and timing expectations clearly and professionally.
- Operate and support fabrication equipment and processes, including CNC machinery, metalworking tools, and additive manufacturing systems.
- Perform fabrication and finishing tasks such as deburring, hand-tool work, assembly, and fitment adjustments.
- Support prototyping activities across disciplines including sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding, composites, and 3D printing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused shop environment.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a model maker, fabricator, or prototype technician
- Basic proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
- Experience using hand tools and performing fabrication or finishing work
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Excellent customer-service mindset and collaborative attitude
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar documentation tools
- Familiarity with advanced CAD tools such as CATIA and GD&T concepts
- MIG and TIG welding experience
- CNC operation and setup experience
- Experience with additive manufacturing technologies
- Experience supporting lab/shop management and safety practices

Commitment
This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
