Texas Christian University seeks a Women’s Tennis Assistant Coach & Adult Programming Coordinator to teach athletic skills, strategies, and techniques while mentoring student athletes in a competitive Division 1 environment. This role also oversees all adult programming.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, critiquing, and implementing strategies to achieve success in a competitive sports program by analyzing trends and recommending new approaches.
- Develop student athletes’ skills and performance during Division 1 competition by teaching strategies, providing game plans, conducting training programs, and preparing weekly practice and conditioning sessions.
- Monitor students’ adherence to department, conference, and NCAA guidelines; resolve issues and report infractions.
- Identify and recruit student athletes qualified to compete academically and athletically at the Division 1 level by evaluating athletic and academic potential.
- Act as a mentor and liaison with the Athletic Academic Office to ensure proper academic progress according to University, Conference, and NCAA guidelines.
- Support student athletes’ participation in the department’s Life Skills program and serve as a resource for personal issues such as nutrition, social, and family matters.
- Prepare and maintain proper documentation on NCAA-related matters, including recruiting, official visits, and practice schedules.
- Assist with Junior drills, including after-school and weekend programs.
- Oversee all equipment operations for the Tennis Center, including inventory, purchasing, replacement, and maintenance.
- Coordinate adult programming, including drills, leagues, and teams.
- Assist in organizing tournaments for Junior and adult tennis teams by collaborating with event staff on schedules, timelines, and facility access.
- Develop, plan, and coordinate events, community outreach initiatives, and revenue-generating programs to support fundraising for Junior Tennis programming.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 2 years of tennis coaching or related experience.
- 1 year of program coordination or related experience.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License; must be insurable under university motor vehicle requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience leading lessons, camps, or clinics.
- Experience teaching tennis to adults and all skill levels.
- Experience organizing athletic events and tournaments.
Skills
- Knowledge of teaching and coaching skills in tennis.
- Knowledge of all aspects of the sport.
- Knowledge of basic counseling techniques and NCAA guidelines.
- Knowledge of customer service principles and relationship management practices.
- Skill in problem-solving and decision-making in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, sponsors, and stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and printed materials.
- Ability to speak clearly in conversation and general communication.
- Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone and face-to-face interactions.
- Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement (bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, prolonged sitting).
- Ability to lift and move objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.
Work Environment
- Work is indoors/outdoors and active, subject to schedule changes and variable work hours.
- On-campus, in-person position.
- Moderate noise level.
