Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) - Athena OB/GYN
Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive, specialized care to women across the lifespan, focusing on reproductive health, gynecological issues, family planning, and wellness promotion. Practices under the standard procedure established for the Nurse Practitioner role consistent with company policy and in accordance with all legal requirements. Conducts age-appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examination consistent with department protocol. Performs routine physical examinations within scope of practice, including pelvic examinations, breast examinations, PAP tests, and any relevant infection screenings. Provides education on women’s issues, preventative care, contraceptive methods, and lifestyle modifications. Orders diagnostic tests and prescribes medications within scope of practice. Manages prenatal, perinatal, and postpartum visits, screening for pregnancy complications and evaluating physical and mental wellbeing after birth. Confers with patients in person and by phone/electronically, collaborates with others in the department to ensure a smooth flow of patient care consistent with established quality indicators and participates in the overall coordination of patient care.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of healthcare principles, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology.
- Ability to analyze complex situations, make sound clinical judgments, and adapt treatment plans as necessary.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and procedures clearly and empathetically.
- Strong computer proficiency and understanding and knowledge of EHR and healthcare technologies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Willingness to pursue continuing education and stay updated on advances in Women’s Health.
Required Education & Experience
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MS, MSN, or DNP); with focus on Women’s Health highly preferred.
- Board certification in WHNP, FNP, ANP, or similar.
- Current unrestricted Pennsylvania Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license, Prescriptive Authority, and DEA, or ability to timeley obtain licensure.
- 1-2 years’ Women’s Health experience preferred; willing to train new graduates with Women's Health RN background.
- Experience with eClinicalWorks a plus.
