About the role

The Women's & Children's Shelter Supervisor at Rescue Mission of Roanoke Inc. is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shelter, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents. Reporting to the Shelter Manager, this position requires flexibility in scheduling and a deep commitment to serving those in need.

Responsibilities

  • Minister to and love those in crisis, reflecting the love of Christ.
  • Resolve conflicts and de-escalate volatile situations as necessary, and report concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with training and support for volunteers and interns.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, staff, and external partners.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with residents and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with the Rescue Mission’s Code of Ethics and policies.

Requirements

  • Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love.
  • Willingness to adhere to The Rescue Mission of Roanoke’s Code of Ethics.
  • Experience working with individuals in crisis settings.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer skills, including prolonged computer use and exposure to computer screens.
  • Physical stamina to move around and perform tasks, including occasional periods of standing, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Knowledge of general cleaning chemicals and ability to handle them occasionally.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations and provide emotional support.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Passion for serving the homeless and underprivileged community.

Schedule

Part-time schedule: 7:30a - 4:30p Saturday & Sunday plus 1 weekday evening. Schedules vary depending on assigned shift and days.
