About the role
The Institute for Textile Technology (ITA) is an internationally active research and qualification service provider in the field of fiber-based high-performance materials and their manufacturing technologies. Our interdisciplinary research fields encompass both applied research and development with industrial partners as well as fundamental research. The ITA develops textile semi-fabrics and products for applications in the Life Sciences and Healthcare, Building and Housing, Lightweight Construction and Mobility, and Energy sectors. The digitalization of textile processes and resource optimization of integrated production systems are also in our focus, as are the representation of complete textile process chains.
Responsibilities
You have a broad scope for shaping content as a Head of the ITA. You can expand your expertise continuously in terms of personnel management and further management. The ITA and RWTH offer various development measures that you can benefit from. You have the opportunity to build an international network in industry and research, which allows you to either prepare for a career in research and science (also at the ITA) or a leadership position in industry.
Requirements
- You have a completed technical or natural science degree (Master or equivalent) with very good grades. A completed PhD is desirable.
- You have knowledge of early textile processing, especially in the production of natural fibers and biobased chemical fibers, spinning preparation and spinning, and surface finishing (especially weaving, knitting, and crocheting).
- You have experience in acquiring and processing scientific research projects, particularly in the area of spinning, including spinning preparation and surface finishing.
- You have experience in personnel management and are committed to the development of your employees.
- In addition, you have a strong initiative, results orientation, systematic working methods, decision-making ability, and high team spirit.
- Your German and English skills are negotiable.
- You shape and are responsible for the strategic direction of the department. You set impulses for the advancement of research topics. This includes keeping the technical and scientific infrastructure up-to-date.
- You represent the research topics of your department in internal and external communication, especially at conferences and industrial exhibitions.
- You lead the scientific staff of your department, define the content goals, and are responsible for the content and financial results of the department to the institute leadership.
- You develop your team, identify strengths of your employees, and support a continuous development of each team member.
- You support your employees in project acquisition, control the project results, and thus ensure high quality in cooperation with your research partners.
- You develop your own research topic and thereby achieve visibility in the research community and industry.
