Winter, Head Coach - Boys Varsity Wrestling

Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the Coach develops and sustains a program for students to achieve a high level of skill in the applicable sport, fitness, and an appreciation for discipline, hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Responsibilities

• Coach individual participants in mechanics and skills necessary for achievement in competitive high school sports.
• Coordinate and supervise a regular schedule of practice.
• Encourage sportsmanship and team unity; enforce all sportsmanship guidelines.
• Enforce discipline of contest, school, conference, and state rules and regulations.
• Supervise assistant coaches and enhance their professional development (if applicable).
• Oversee safety conditions and accountability for students and facilities, both on ASD properties and at off-campus locations.
• Maintain accurate records of uniforms, equipment, individual and team statistics, and accomplishments.
• Submit required forms and athletic documents.
• Recommend purchase of equipment and supplies.
• Coordinate and develop an effective and sustainable fundraising plan with the Athletic Director, clearly communicated to administration, players, coaches, media, and the community.
• Communicate effectively with administration, players, coaches, media, and the community.
• Attend required coaches' clinics and state/conference selection meetings (if applicable).
• Attend required coaches' meetings and Athletic Booster's Association meetings (if applicable).
• Develop a comprehensive program for grades 9 through 12.
• Demonstrate willingness to work collaboratively with Athletics Department Administration, staff, student-athletes, and parents within a dynamic practice and meet schedule.

Requirements

• Experience coaching or participating in the applicable sport at the high school or collegiate level; prior coaching experience is desirable.
• Knowledge of NFHS sport rules, DIAA Rules and Regulations, Blue Hen Conference Regulations, and ASD Policies and Procedures.
• Knowledge of basic First Aid and Athletic Training Practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, coaches, and the community using approved Appoquinimink School District communication methods.
• Excellent organizational skills.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to talk, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including conveying detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Must possess normal cognitive abilities, including the ability to learn, recall, and apply practices and policies.
• Frequently sitting or remaining in a stationary position for long periods.
• Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.

Work Environment

The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment, including gymnasiums and athletic fields. Work may require movement around the school or off-site locations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test. Employment offers require proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of an I-9 form, and paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
