About the role

This module is intended to introduce students to several real-life health economics challenges from various (clinical, academic, policy, and private) healthcare organizations in Toronto (parent organizations). The module will be guided by the principles of the experiential/integrative/problem-based learning (PBL), a student-centered approach in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving real-life/open-ended problems. The students will closely interact with the representatives from the parent organizations to explore the pipeline of value-based decision making and to find solutions to the proposed challenges. During this course, the students will learn the key health economics concepts used in decision making and policy framing as a way to help them understand how societies make choices about health and healthcare funding.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course content, including seminars
  • Creation of courseware
  • Development and administration of assignments
  • Marking and evaluation of proposals, reports and reflections
  • Maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours
  • Supervision of day-to-day work of project groups

Requirements

  • Masters degree or equivalent professional and/or academic experience

Schedule

  • Class schedule: 2-hour seminar-style workshops; occurring Wednesdays, 10am–12pm
  • Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2027 – February 28, 2027
  • Estimated course enrollment: ~25 students
  • Estimated TA support: not applicable

Pay

  • Sessional Lecturer I: $4,998.74 (0.25 FCE)
  • Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term: $5,349.61 (0.25 FCE)
  • Sessional Lecturer II: $5,349.61 (0.25 FCE)
  • Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term: $5,476.98 (0.25 FCE)
  • Sessional Lecturer III: $5,476.98 (0.25 FCE)
  • Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term: $5,614.45 (0.25 FCE)

Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
