Wind Turbine Technician

Safety and Quality form a central part of our culture. Travel could be up to 25% in the first year of employment for training purposes, followed by 10% travel in the following years per business needs. The working environment entails working inside the wind turbine enclosure at an elevated height of ~300 feet, often in confined spaces and extreme weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Service and maintenance of wind turbines
- Troubleshoot errors on wind turbines
- Escalate technical issues to supporting engineering functions
- Support other sites across Iowa as needed, though the position will primarily have a home wind farm site
- Provide excellent service to customers
- Participate in the development of new and improved field procedures and best practices
- Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights (~300 feet)
- Maintain composure during stressful and/or hazardous situations
Physical requirements include but are not limited to: ladder climbing (minimum 250 steps), stair climbing, standing for long periods, walking, lifting, bending, twisting, working above shoulders, pushing, pulling, exposure to vibration, chemicals, confined spaces, and extreme weather conditions.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (driving is an essential function of the job; periodic driver’s abstract checks may be required)
- Physically and mentally able to work suspended from heights and in confined spaces
- Flexible travel schedule
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Self-motivated with the ability to think quickly and address issues as they arise
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong ability to organize and plan daily/weekly work with a high level of quality orientation
- Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel
- Body weight of 265 pounds or less, as required by safety regulations
- Pass a physical administered by a medical practitioner to ensure ability to safely perform job functions
- Pass pre-hire background screening
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a mechanical, electrical, or industrial field
- Certification from a Renewable Energy or Wind Technical Program (preferred)
- Hands-on work experience as a Wind Technician on a Wind Farm (preferred)
- Relevant work experience or demonstrated knowledge in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, maintenance/troubleshooting (e.g., military, industrial, or automotive industry)
