Job Duties
- Serves as a nutrition counselor and health educator.
- Facilitates patient-centered goal-setting for nutritional balance and healthy lifestyles for patients.
- Adheres to the mandates of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program duties in accordance with USDA Regulations and State and Local Agency Policies and Procedures.
- Determines medical/nutritional risks and prescribes supplemental foods as part of the WIC program.
- Performs nutrition assessments and determines nutritional risk factors in clients applying for WIC.
- Develops care plans and provides appropriate counseling and follow-up on nutrition during pregnancy, lactation, post-partum, and infancy/early childhood.
- Properly documents all services provided.
- Provides nutritional counseling both individually and in groups.
- Helps maintain a smooth patient flow through the WIC office.
- Promotes breastfeeding by educating WIC clients on the benefits and basics of breastfeeding and pump use.
- Provides breastfeeding education for staff and organizes breastfeeding support for clients.
- Affords assistance in scheduling and enrolling clients in the WIC program and completing duties for certification and food benefit issuance as needed.
- Designs informational materials and serves as a nutrition resource for WIC clients, health department staff, and the community.
- Provides nutrition services to OWCHC and DCHD clients, staff, and community residents.
- Plans and participates in community health education programs.
