About the role

Delta Medical Transport is seeking a reliable and compassionate Wheelchair Van Driver to join our team in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will safely transport patients with mobility challenges to and from medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport patients with mobility challenges to and from medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities.
• Assist patients with boarding and exiting the wheelchair van, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey.
• Secure wheelchairs and other mobility aids properly within the vehicle to prevent shifting during transit.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wheelchair van, including regular sanitization and disinfection of high-touch surfaces.
• Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving, prioritizing the safety of passengers and pedestrians.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, healthcare providers, and patients to coordinate transportation schedules and ensure timely arrivals.
• Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient concerns, answering questions, and maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor at all times.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance issues or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
• Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, and patient transport activities for administrative purposes.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Previous experience in patient transportation, customer service, or a related field preferred.
• Ability to lift and maneuver wheelchairs and assist patients with mobility challenges as needed.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and maneuver wheelchairs and assist patients with mobility challenges (up to 50 pounds).
• Ability to sit for extended periods and operate a wheelchair van safely.
