About the role

The role of the modern Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is evolving, with finance departments becoming more strategically focused, value-driven, and future-oriented. In successful organizations, the finance team plays a critical role in shaping strategy and business development by providing an independent, data-driven perspective. The CFO and their team are as vital to business transformation as operations and IT teams, particularly in an uncertain business environment.

To support success, CFOs must take key steps to ensure their organizations are prepared for long-term growth and adaptability.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on the future: Drive long-term success through forecasting activities such as demand planning, sales forecasting, inventory planning, capacity planning, and financial forecasting. Ensure forecast models are based on reliable data, account for multiple scenarios, and are integrated with the broader business to illustrate cause-and-effect relationships.
  • Understand and align the business: Answer strategic questions like "where should we play," "how should we play," and "how do we win" using reliable data. Conduct multi-faceted analyses of the business, accounting for its complexity across regions, currencies, time zones, and product lines.
  • Transform digitally: Create a "single source of truth" for the organization to align departments and eliminate discrepancies in data. Ensure finance teams play an active role in digital transformation by leveraging their analytical skills and business acumen.
  • Leverage new technologies for accurate reporting: Equip the finance team with forward-looking data gathering and analysis tools to turn data into insight and foresight. Implement innovative financial reporting tools to maintain accuracy, communicate the organization’s strategy, and build trust with stakeholders. Address challenges posed by outdated tools like Excel and respond efficiently to ad-hoc scenario requests.

Requirements

  • Ability to develop and utilize forecast models based on reliable data and integrated with the rest of the business.
  • Experience conducting multi-dimensional business analyses to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Proficiency in driving digital transformation and creating a "single source of truth" for data across the organization.
  • Familiarity with advanced financial planning, modeling, and reporting technologies to improve accuracy and responsiveness.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Commitment to leveraging data for long-term strategic planning and business alignment.

Skills

  • Strategic thinking and long-term planning.
  • Data analysis and financial forecasting.
  • Digital transformation leadership.
  • Financial reporting and stakeholder communication.
  • Cross-functional collaboration and alignment.
  • Proficiency with financial planning and business intelligence tools.
