About the role
WGAL-TV offers paid internships in the News department. To apply, submit a cover letter with your application and any relevant attachments, such as writing samples or reels. The cover letter should specify your preferred department (e.g., News Producing, Reporting, Photography, Sports, Meteorology), available start and end dates, and your objectives for the internship.
Responsibilities
Assignment Desk: Assist in gathering news and information, taking and placing calls, and assisting in research.
TV News Production: Shadow reporters and anchors during live reports, practice writing scripts, and time in the field.
Digital News Production: Research and write content for WGAL's digital platforms, assist with photo and video production, and help with social media efforts.
Photographers and Logistics: Assist with field work and news gathering.
Sports: Write scripts for daily sportscasts, research team and player statistics, pitch story ideas, and accompany reporters on location shoots.
Weather: Analyze weather charts and models, prepare daily forecasts, produce weather graphics, gather critical weather information, and assist meteorologists.
Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in a meteorology curriculum or closely related program of study for weather internships. For all internships, applicants should demonstrate strong communication skills, a passion for journalism, and a willingness to learn and contribute to the team.

Pay
Details on pay rates will be provided upon acceptance of an internship offer.
Schedule
Internships are scheduled based on mutual availability and academic requirements, typically consisting of 16 hours per week.
