WFAA-TV, the TEGNA ABC affiliate in Dallas, seeks a full-time Broadcast Engineer to join the Technology team. This position is responsible for the day-to-day hands-on maintenance of the station’s technical equipment, including traditional broadcast hardware and industry-specific software. The ideal candidate can balance multiple ongoing projects while addressing the immediate maintenance needs of a 24/7 operation.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day operations of the station, including all daily news operations, equipment, and computer-based IT systems.
- Install and maintain broadcast and IT equipment at studio facilities, transmitter sites, in remote broadcast vehicles, and at other remote locations.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, making repairs or implementing workarounds as needed.
- Perform routine security updates and reboots of broadcast servers.
- Contribute to technical documentation that accurately represents installed equipment.
- Occasional field work on remote productions.
- Minor building-related maintenance tasks occasionally required.
Requirements
- 5-7 years’ experience in broadcast engineering or a related field.
- Strong organizational, communications, and time-management skills.
- Able to work efficiently without direct supervision.
- Ability to work well under pressure, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with others.
- Solid understanding of current computer hardware, network technologies, and Microsoft’s Active Directory environment.
- Ability to plan technical projects and clearly communicate the status of problems, provide updates on progress, and offer solutions to technical issues.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Available on call.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and work on elevated surfaces, pull and install wiring, use hand and power tools, work on small components, and perform other physical tasks.
- Current driver’s license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
