About the role
Copperhead Environmental Consulting, Inc. is hiring a full-time, exempt, salaried Wetland Scientist II. This position is an in-office position located in Paint Lick, Kentucky or hybrid in Asheville, NC. This position will be dedicated to a specific long-term client project with opportunity to work on other projects in the interim and thereafter.
Responsibilities
- Technical Perform field work and reporting associated with wetland and stream delineations and botanical and hydrologic surveys
- Moderate understanding of scientific principles and understanding of various implementation techniques as related to area of focus
- Travel for client meetings, Copperhead meetings and field work is required and anticipated to be 70%
- Aid in the preparation of Section 404/401 and associated permit applications
- Collect data and perform data analysis
- Be responsible for the maintenance and care of field data, specimens, and samples
- Organize and lead field work
- Lead, direct, and assist routine equipment maintenance and pack equipment to and from the site
- Understand the Project's goal(s) and deliverable requirements outlined in the SOW
- Contribute to drafting deliverables and provide feedback to PM or other Team members with regards to quality of the report and provide recommendation as necessary
- Ensure the team is following company and safety standards in the field
- Make valuable contributions to the team, coordinate team members where appropriate
- Ability to communicate technical concepts, both verbally and in written form
- Understand processes and technologies used and suggest improvements as needed or relevant
- Critical thinking of our data and scientific processes
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned
- Project Management
- Understand the scope of work and identify when/if activities are out of scope, communicating with supervisor accordingly
- Monitor project deadlines as it relates to deliverables within team’s responsibilities
- Complete work products and procedures in time allotted
- Prepare status updates on assigned tasks

- Connect with relevant networks to build a network of professional connections
- Participate in presentations, attend trade shows, and professional conferences where applicable
- Provide technical support for proposal development

Requirements
- Years Of Experience: 4+ years, 2-5 years of progressive experience in wetland delineation
- Licensure/Certification: Valid Driver’s License
- Knowledge of applicable and relevant local, state, and federal regulations including the Clean Water Act (Section 404/401), Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act
- Completion of a wetland delineation course in line with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Regulatory Program or Wetland Delineator/Delineation Certificate from an accredited organization
- Experience conducting field surveys for federal or state listed species
- Certification as a Wetland Professional In-Training (WPIT) by the Society of Wetlands Scientists
- Candidates with a QHP or QHP-IT certification in Tennessee will be given top consideration
- Educational and Other Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, biology, ecology, botany, or related field
