Wet Line Lab Specialist - 1st shift (6am-230pm)

About the Role

This position operates automatic and manual chemical process equipment of varying complexity in various production processes in accordance with operating procedures. The role requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the company, which may include safety shoes, safety glasses, disposable gloves, chemical handling gloves, thermal gloves, full face respirator, N-95 masks, and chemical face shields.

Ability to work safely in a complex, technical manufacturing environment, providing regular feedback on maintaining a safe work environment through behavior-based and situational observations. Participation in the employee safety committee may be required.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples for the lab to perform routine checks on chemicals in production.
• Perform routine chemical additions and water additions to maintain production line chemical tanks.
• Document and track activities with chemical additions.
• Maintain cleanliness of strip line tanks and change outs.
• Monitor wastewater treatment system to ensure operation is consistent with quality standards and complies with all local, state, and federal regulatory criteria.
• Operate equipment including holding/filling tank machines, filter presses, evaporators, scrubbers, and pumps.
• Handle processes that may generate high pressure and/or critical reactions, requiring training in hazardous material handling and emergency procedures.
• Prepare and coordinate hazardous waste shipment and pickup.
• Order chemicals and maintain stock levels for production.
• Order drums and totes to dispose of hazardous waste.
• Ensure cleanliness and continuous operation of the water treatment system.
• Prepare and coordinate hazardous waste shipments and pickup, including packaging, storage, and shipment within EPA time limits.
• Coordinate with site quality engineer (QA) to track tank make-up and communicate any issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in chemical and hazardous waste processing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior aerospace industry experience.
• Basic chemistry knowledge (high school level and above).

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

The physical demands often include prolonged standing, walking, lifting moderate to heavy weights, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and performing repetitive motions. The role frequently requires working in potentially extreme temperatures and noisy environments, often necessitating the ability to wear protective gear for extended periods.
