About the role

The plant Wellbeing, Health and Safety (WHS) Specialist is responsible for implementing and administering standardized WHS processes to ensure compliance with Federal, State, Provincial and Local regulations and Corporate Policies and Procedures. This position aims to achieve world-class status and drive corporate savings through the reduction of occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage, and enhancement of production efficiency while safeguarding employee health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Implement WHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted.
  • Conduct regular audits of WHS processes and necessary follow-up to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership and corporate WHS staff of findings.
  • Analyze injury/illness experience including ergonomics, identify/track injury correlation, determine root causes, implement corrective action, and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate WHS.
  • Support new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure that WHS design specifications and regulations are included.
  • Manage routine safety reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval.
  • Cook up communication of WHS regulatory inspection activity with plant leadership.
  • Lead WHS projects to improve WHS key performance metrics.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the plant’s safety management system to meet ISO 45001 and SIS safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Engineering, Science or related field.
  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and Local regulations and requirements.
  • Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite and/or other software.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of Safety, Engineering or similar experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Safety related professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH).
  • Master’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Science or related field.
  • Automotive or manufacturing experience.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and SIS safety standards.
