About the role
The Solano County Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) is dedicated to protecting public resources by investigating suspected welfare fraud, preventing program abuse, and helping ensure public assistance benefits are available for those who truly qualify. Our investigators conduct thorough criminal and administrative investigations, verify eligibility information, recover public funds through overpayment collections and court-ordered restitution, and work closely with local, state, and federal partners to uphold the integrity of public assistance programs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough criminal and administrative investigations involving suspected public assistance fraud, theft, forgery, and related offenses.
- Review investigative findings, prepare cases for criminal prosecution or administrative action.
- Testify in judicial and administrative proceedings.
- Lead investigative staff while also conducting complex investigations involving eligibility fraud, employee threats, theft, damage to public property, and other assigned investigations.
- Serve as an important member of the department's management team.
Requirements
- Education: Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law Enforcement, Police Science, or a closely related field; or a California Intermediate Post Certificate can substitute for education requirements.
- Experience: Three (3) years of full-time paid law enforcement experience working primarily in criminal investigations in a government agency, one (1) year of which must have been as a Welfare Fraud Investigator or equivalent in a government agency.
- Licenses, Certifications and Registrations: Possession of a valid and current P.O.S.T Specialized Investigator Basic Course (SIBC), valid and current California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Peace Officer Certificate, OR Possession of a Basic Course Waiver (BCW) is required.
