About the role
The Welding Maintenance Tech plays a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of manufacturing processes. This position requires an individual with a strong engineering background who can effectively communicate with clients regarding specifications for requests for proposals. The tech will collaborate closely with the inside sales and marketing teams, as well as the engineering department, acting as a vital link between these groups. This role presents the opportunity to shape its direction while addressing the challenges posed by antiquated equipment and varying operator knowledge. The successful candidate will be integral to enhancing production quality and throughput through innovative solutions.
Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality MIG and TIG welding on a variety of materials
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols
- Troubleshoot welding issues and conduct trials/tests
- Design, build, and improve fixturing/tooling for efficient manufacturing
- Evaluate current fixtures and recommend enhancements for throughput and quality
- Conduct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on CNC machines and production equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues
Requirements
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with fixturing and tooling design or modification
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in MIG and TIG welding in a manufacturing environment
- 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience
- Able to read blueprints and schematics
- Certification in welding (AWS or equivalent) is preferred
- Experience working with automated or robotic welding systems is preferred
- OSHA 10 or 40 hour certification is preferred
- ISO 9001 knowledge is preferred
- Familiarity with lean, six sigma, and 5S methodologies is preferred
- Technical degree or trade certification is preferred
- Engineering background is preferred
- Experience with CMMS systems is preferred
- Experience operating larger equipment is preferred
