Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking a part-time Welding Lab Assistant to assist in and around the welding lab and maintain a safe lab environment. This role supports faculty members with routine laboratory tasks, equipment maintenance, and student supervision on an academic-term basis.
Responsibilities
- Maintain supplies and equipment for laboratories and/or stock rooms, including inventory and requisition of supplies.
- Assist faculty with the preparation and administration of student assignments.
- Support the development and enforcement of safety practices in instructional laboratories.
- Prepare materials and machinery for lab exercises, including metal preparation using grinders and plasma track torches.
- Maintain welding booths, demo stations, and tool storage in organized and good working order for student use.
- Keep the work area clean and safe, including minor troubleshooting of the plasma track torch system and reviewing quality control of beveled cuts.
- Assist in supervising students assigned to laboratories.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience/proficiency in the use of manual and semi-automatic welding equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of safety procedures related to welding, cutting, and brazing.
- Ability to work mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday.
Skills
- Ability to write using proper grammar and punctuation.
- Proficiency in standard mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc.).
- Understanding of and commitment to the role of a community college.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle tools, and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Pay
$15.00 per hour (non-exempt).
Schedule
- Part-time, up to 29 hours per week.
- Must be available mornings and afternoons, Monday through Friday.
