Responsibilities
- Design and develop a comprehensive welding curriculum covering welding techniques, safety procedures, metallurgy, and related topics.
- Deliver engaging lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on training to ensure students understand concepts and can apply practical skills.
- Instruct students on proper safety protocols, including PPE use, safe handling of welding equipment, and adherence to regulations and industry standards.
- Maintain welding equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working condition and meet safety standards; troubleshoot issues and coordinate repairs or replacements.
- Assess student performance through practical demonstrations, written exams, and other evaluation methods; provide constructive feedback to help students improve.
- Prepare students for certification exams by covering relevant topics, administering practice tests, and offering exam preparation guidance.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment; manage classroom dynamics, address student concerns, and enforce disciplinary policies.
- Create a learning environment inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff from other departments to promote communication, coordinate programs, and support student success.
- Prepare clear learning outcomes for each course and inform students via a course syllabus.
- Maintain classroom, laboratory, and departmental equipment; ensure security of facilities and instructional materials.
- Participate in college service and activities, including registration, curriculum development, strategic planning, and educational assessment.
- Provide academic advising to students for completion and career readiness.
- Support student recruitment, placement, and retention.
- Stay professionally current through development activities and maintain required credentials for program or accreditation.
- Maintain active liaison with high schools, business and industry, or external agencies; organize the Occupational Advisory Committee.
- Complete instructional duties, reports, and paperwork assigned by administration in a timely manner.
- Attend faculty/staff meetings and in-service programs.
- Maintain and emphasize safe working conditions and practices.
- Comply with all Board policies and administrative regulations.
- Apply appropriate technology in teaching and the learning process.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida and meet all school and District policy requirements.
- Support school improvement initiatives by actively participating in school activities, services, and programs.
- Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate action based on school procedures and law.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
- Assist with program planning, scheduling, and coordination of educational activities.
Requirements
- Certified or certifiable by the district as a Welding Instructor.
- 3 years of experience in the field.
- High School Diploma/GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- American Welding Society (AWS) certification (must obtain within 6 months of employment).
Skills
- Thorough understanding of safety protocols and best practices relevant to welding.
- Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., OSHA).
- Familiarity with industry-standard software and equipment used in welding.

Schedule
7.5 hours per day, 12 months per year.
