About the Role

The Welding Engineer Technician is responsible for performing welding, NDE, PWHT, machining, and other technical functions in the CB&I Welding Technology (CWT) Weld Lab. This individual participates in the development of new construction and welding technologies, materials, consumables, equipment, manuals, and CBI standards. They also assist with the training of CB&I personnel under the direction of CB&I Welding Technology.

  • Generate improvement ideas for tools and workflow associated with the role, and develop investment justification.
  • Implement improvement initiatives within the department and company.
  • Complete calibration checks in accordance with written procedures.
  • Execute the welding of test plates, mock-up assemblies, or production samples in accordance with the requirements of the CB&I work order system.
  • Perform mechanical testing of test specimens in accordance with code requirements and the CB&I work order system.
  • Perform PWHT operations in accordance with written instructions and the CB&I work order system.
  • Perform NDE operations on test coupons in accordance with written procedures, code requirements, and the CB&I work order system.
  • Assist with CB&I in-house training classes and with the training and testing of welding personnel.
  • Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of Weld Lab equipment, tools, and supplies for continued performance on CWT required activities.
  • Be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of company tools, standards, procedures, and capabilities; solve complex problems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Be knowledgeable and proficient in various processes used by the CWT Welding Lab, including: SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, SAW, EGW, Oxy-Acetylene, and Plasma Cutting.
  • Execute sawing and machining of welded test plates per the Work Order drawings.
  • Be knowledgeable and proficient in the mechanics of machining test specimens in accordance with code requirements and the CB&I work order system.
  • Demonstrate depth and/or breadth of knowledge in own specialized discipline or field.
  • Produce deliverables that are of high quality and comply with designs, company standards, and contract documents; impact the achievement of customer, operational, or project objectives.
  • Maintain advanced self-awareness and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactively embrace and promote the company’s values and culture.
  • Complete tasks with little to no supervision.
  • Maintain the safe, efficient, and high-quality operations of the CWT Weld Lab.
  • Provide good quality and useful feedback or information on the activities performed in the lab.

Requirements

Project site work is required.

Qualifications

  • 0 to 2 years of experience in welding is preferred.
  • College certificate in welding technology or manufacturing technology preferred.
  • Cross-functional training such as mechanical testing and machining desired.
  • Participation in proper demonstration of Safety rules and regulations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Skills

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of company tools, standards, procedures, and capabilities; solves complex problems taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in various processes used by the CWT Welding Lab, including: SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, SAW, EGW, Oxy-Acetylene, and Plasma Cutting.
  • Proficient in executing sawing and machining of welded test plates per Work Order drawings.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in the mechanics of machining test specimens in accordance with code requirements and the CB&I work order system.
  • Demonstrates depth and/or breadth of knowledge in own specialized discipline or field.
  • Produces high-quality deliverables that comply with designs, company standards, and contract documents; impacts the achievement of customer, operational, or project objectives.

Pay

Pay Range: $55,000–$59,000 USD annually.
