About the role
Responsible for providing technical guidance to suppliers as well as internal and external customers with respect to welding and fabrication of the components used in the construction of nuclear submarines.
Responsibilities
- Participate in audits of suppliers performing welding to confirm contractual requirements are being followed at the supplier’s location
- Follow up on audit findings and work to adjudicate findings affecting in process and delivered hardware
- Review and approve supplier welding procedures
- Disposition vendor information requests
- Provide welding training/guidance to suppliers
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills to allow close communication of technical issues with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers and Electric Boat management
- Frequency of travel varies but at most travel to suppliers is one week at time, up to once per month
Qualifications
- R equired: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology in the following disciplines: Mechanical Welding Metallurgical Materials (if focus is on Metallics)
- 5+ years of postgraduate engineering experience in an industrial welding environment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication
- Preferred Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
