About the role

The Welder plans and performs a wide variety of welding, layout, fitting, cutting, and assembly operations on structural and sheet metal components according to prescribed standards and customer specifications. This role requires welding a full range of materials, sizes, and shapes using multiple processes, including GMAW, GTAW, plasma, oxyacetylene cutting, and brazing.

Responsibilities

• Select appropriate rods, wires, tips, and electrodes for each welding operation.
• Perform all positions of welding, including tack welding, sometimes in confined spaces, ensuring smooth bead profile, proper penetration and fusion, and controlled distortion.
• Work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, welding symbols, specifications, and instructions to plan work in proper operational sequence.
• Fit and position parts using fixtures and precision measuring instruments.
• Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and report defective materials or unusual conditions to supervision.
• Perform intricate hand and machine welding to develop complex fabrications and complete product assembly as required.
• Maintain welding equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
• Identify job flow or production issues and recommend corrective actions to support efficient operations.
• Complete crane and/or forklift training and demonstrate competency in safe operation and rigging.
• Perform periodic field work and other duties as assigned.
• Train and mentor team members.

Requirements

• Ability to weld a full range of materials, sizes, and shapes using GMAW, GTAW, plasma, oxyacetylene cutting, and brazing.
• Experience working from blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to plan and execute work.
• Proficiency in fitting and positioning parts using fixtures and precision measuring instruments.
• Capability to inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
• Competency in operating crane and/or forklift safely and performing rigging tasks.

Physical Requirements

• Moderately heavy work: occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 pounds or less.
• Operate a variety of industrial machining tools.
• Lift/Carry: 0-10 lbs. continuously, 11-50 lbs. frequently.
• Push/Pull: 0-25 lbs. continuously, 26-100 lbs. frequently.
• Bend: 34-66% during a 10-hour shift.
• Twist/Turn: 34-66% during a 10-hour shift.
• Kneel/Squat: 0-33% during a 10-hour shift.
• Sit: 0-33% during a 10-hour shift.
• Stand/Walk: 67-100% during a 10-hour shift.
• Overhead Reaching: 0-33% during a 10-hour shift.
• Ladder/Stair Climb: 0-33% during a 10-hour shift.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the current range is $24–$40/hour, taking into account skill sets, experience, training, certifications, and business needs.

Schedule

• Day shift: 4/10-hour days, Monday–Thursday.
• Night shift: 4/10-hour days, Monday–Thursday, 15% shift differential.
• Weekend shift: 3/12-hour days, Friday–Sunday, 15% shift differential.
