About the role
Welders at Veritas Steel's Palatka location perform FCAW & SMAW processes to industry codes and standards, including repairs and miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Shop Supervisor. The role demands high production efficiency, quality workmanship, and strict adherence to safety policies.
Responsibilities
- Use proper safety equipment to prepare surfaces for operations such as air arc, groove welds, flux core, and full pin.
- Follow correct procedures to achieve proper weld profiles and understand welding codes and tools.
- Perform proper preparation, cleaning, and setup, including hand torch use.
- Interpret basic weld symbols and gauges.
- Maintain shop, equipment, tools, and vehicles to ensure availability, functionality, and safety.
- Coordinate with shop supervisors and team members to complete projects and work orders efficiently, on time, and defect-free.
- Adhere to safety policies to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and coworkers.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
- Ability to read metric tapes.
- Adaptability to changing work priorities, strong communication, and ability to meet deadlines and schedules.
- Commitment to work safety and active participation in the company’s safety culture.
- Demonstrated quality, accuracy, thoroughness, and reliability in work performed.
- Willingness to learn and contribute to team success.
- Welding experience is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift 40 pounds and carry 30 pounds.
- Capable of pushing/moving objects up to 50 pounds of force and pulling up to 122 pounds of force.
- Required to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel for up to 99% of the shift.
- Good range of motion for reaching forward, overhead, and bending.
- Agile fingers and thumbs on both hands.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed indoors in a large warehouse or outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to dirt, dust, paint fumes, noise, moving equipment, heavy steel, and other potential hazards.
- Safety gear required: safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and steel-toed boots; respirators for specific operations.
Schedule
- Weekend Shift: 36-hour work week paid for 40 hours, with a $1.10 per hour shift differential for nights. Shifts are Friday–Sunday, 5 AM–5 PM or 5 PM–5 AM.
- Night Shift: Monday–Thursday, 5 PM–5 AM, 48-hour week with double time after 50 hours worked.
Pay
$19.45–$22.16 per hour.
