About the role
The Welder Helper position plays a critical role in ensuring overall project success by performing a variety of manual labor tasks and directly supporting the work of welders on the job site.
Responsibilities
- Assist welders to set up rigs and move them between work areas.
- Ensure welders have required materials and tools available, such as rods and grinding discs.
- Maintain stock levels of materials and supplies.
- Load and unload trucks.
- Follow welders' instructions to adjust welding machine temperatures.
- Employ buffers and grinders to clean welds.
- Torque and bolt up piping.
- Set piping support structures in place.
- Hand-dig excavations.
- Operate equipment and other machinery as assigned.
- Assist with painting.
- Maintain knowledge of various types of metal.
- Proactively identify safety risks and hazards on the job site.
- Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.
- Follow project instructions from superintendent and/or foreman.
- Ensure regulated and proper headgear, gloves, safety glasses, and clothing are worn.
- Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a similar role.
- Experience with 100% travel away from home preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Basic skills to read drawings and prints.
- Able to take precise measurements and operate levels to obtain elevations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills with all levels of management.
- Able to work independently or as an active member of a team.
- Possess a valid state or federal ID.
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC card.
