Welder Helper

About the role

The Welder Helper position plays a critical role in ensuring overall project success by performing a variety of manual labor tasks and directly supporting the work of welders on the job site.

Responsibilities

• Assist welders to set up rigs and move them between work areas.
• Ensure welders have required materials and tools available, such as rods and grinding discs.
• Maintain stock levels of materials and supplies.
• Load and unload trucks.
• Follow welders' instructions to adjust welding machine temperatures.
• Employ buffers and grinders to clean welds.
• Torque and bolt up piping.
• Set piping support structures in place.
• Hand-dig excavations.
• Operate equipment and other machinery as assigned.
• Assist with painting.
• Maintain knowledge of various types of metal.
• Proactively identify safety risks and hazards on the job site.
• Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.
• Follow project instructions from superintendent and/or foreman.
• Ensure regulated and proper headgear, gloves, safety glasses, and clothing are worn.
• Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.
• At least one year of experience in a similar role.
• Experience with 100% travel away from home preferred.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Basic skills to read drawings and prints.
• Able to take precise measurements and operate levels to obtain elevations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills with all levels of management.
• Able to work independently or as an active member of a team.
• Possess a valid state or federal ID.
• Ability to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC card.
