Welder
About the role
Sunsteel, LLC designs and fabricates structural steel for the U.S. market, specializing in the fabrication of heavy structural steel components for major construction projects throughout North America. This role reports to the Shop Supervisor and is located in Sunnyside, WA.
The hourly pay range for this position is $17.13 - $21.96.
Responsibilities
- Perform welding tasks, including setting up materials and equipment, and welding structural steel products such as columns and beams.
- Check equipment for working order and work area for safety.
- Set up equipment and perform math functions in standard and metric units, such as reading tape measures and taking measurements.
- Tack or weld structural parts into place using wire feed welding equipment (GMAW).
- Perform welding of simple and fillet welds requiring multiple passes and penetration.
- Operate various cranes and other equipment to move and load raw materials and products.
- Operate machinery in a safe and productive manner, and move finished products to staging areas.
- Notify supervisors or leads of needed repairs and perform other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Structural steel welding experience is required.
- Blueprint reading experience is required.
- Ability to perform basic math skills in both standard and metric systems.
- Ability to read tape measures, take measurements, and mark products.
- Regular and punctual attendance, with overtime required.
- Ability to lift 60 pounds.
- Possess a strong sense of urgency and ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Willingness to take direction from supervisors and leads, and follow quality procedures and safety protocols.
Physical Demands
This role requires regular standing, use of hands and fingers, handling or feeling objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. The role also requires frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and talking or hearing. Occasionally, the role requires lifting and/or moving up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment is a structural steel fabrication setting with constant exposure to excessive noise levels, frequent exposure to outside weather conditions, and occasional exposure to vibration. The role also involves frequent work near moving mechanical parts and exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Personal Protection Equipment is required in certain areas.
