Welder

About the role

A Certified Welder is knowledgeable in using all welding equipment and proficient in general assembly applications. Welders are responsible for bracket installation and structural processes, cutting and joining metals and other materials at our facility. The role involves operating appropriate equipment to assemble structures or parts with precision, providing the foundation for strong infrastructure. Welders must follow safety precautions and demonstrate competence in handling potentially dangerous equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a steady hand, great attention to detail, and knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties. Welders build and repair buses, performing repairs on interior and exterior fixtures and structures while following work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Weld each stage of bus manufacturing and/or bus repair according to processes
• Weld aluminum, metal, and stainless steel
• Drill, grind, sand, fabricate parts, disassemble, and reassemble components related to welding and general repairs
• Read blueprints and engineering change notices, following instructions to complete plans and repairs
• Use measuring tape, levels, and squares for installations based on engineering documentation (metric preferred)
• Use standard hand tools, electric and pneumatic power tools, and calibration tools
• Drill and handle materials such as fiberglass, plastics composites, mild steel, and aluminum
• Install and remove fasteners such as nuts, bolts, and rivets
• Apply adhesives and sealants to bus processes as needed
• Install and repair bus processes using mechanical equipment to operational standards
• Apply MIG welding techniques (preferred)
• Properly use electrical and gas functions on welding machines (preferred)
• Use cutting equipment such as plasma and acetylene cutters (preferred)
• Synthesize complex or diverse information
• Demonstrate required skills and uphold organizational values
• Adapt to change in the work environment and follow instructions
• Respond to management direction and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
• Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and observe safety procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or one to three years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, construction/general repairs, and mechanical systems
• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

Work Environment

The work environment is typically loud, with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, work may be required in high or precarious places and offsite locations.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear
• Frequently required to reach with hands and arms
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

$18–$25 per hour
