Welder Job Description

The job involves applying GTAW welding techniques to produce extremely strong joints on galvanized and stainless-steel duct work. Duties include:

• Mig, Tig and Stick welding
• Operating tools such as: grinders, welding equipment, squares, and drills
• Selecting and installing consumables for the welding process
• Regulating gas flow by turning the flow meter to the appropriate amount
• Setting the machine for proper penetration
• Reading and interpreting welding blueprints for layout, measuring, and aligning metal work pieces using straightedges, clamps, and calipers
• Assessing welds to ensure they are clean, free of errors, and in accordance with quality standards

Qualifications

To succeed on this job, you must:

• Be knowledgeable about regulating gas flow
• Have knowledge of setting the machine for proper penetration
• Pass a pre-employment welding test
