Welder
Welding Operations
Set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. Perform welding on components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
Safety Practices
Operate safety equipment and adhere to safe work habits to maintain a safe working environment.
Preparation and Assembly
Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies before welding using tools such as straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
Inspection and Measurement
Examine workpieces for defects and measure them with straightedges or templates to ensure they meet specifications.
Material Handling
Weld using various materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys. Prepare surfaces by cleaning and removing contaminants.
Tool and Equipment Selection
Select and install torches, tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding specifications or the types and thicknesses of metals.
Process Monitoring
Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent issues such as overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
Technical Reading
Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan and execute welding operations.
Marking and Tagging
Mark or tag materials with job numbers, piece marks, and other identifiers as required.
Maintenance and Repair
Detect faulty equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. Clean or degrease parts as needed and repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.
Fabrication
Fabricate products to match production specifications, including material thickness, width, length, and welding procedures.
Additional Duties
Perform other related tasks as assigned to support production goals.
