About the role
Cleland Site Prep has been serving the Low Country of South Carolina and Georgia since 1970. Our team provides quality work through skilled project managers, engineers, estimators, superintendents, and foremen. We develop areas like Hilton Head Island and offer a range of services including clearing, demolishing, and paving.
Responsibilities
- Set up, prepare, cut, grind, and fit materials for welding according to specifications and measurements.
- Operate welding and fabrication equipment, including manual and semi-automatic welders, grinders, drills, saws, and cutting torches.
- Weld components in various positions, including horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
- Inspect completed welds and structures to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with specifications.
- Perform welding repairs and maintenance on trucks, equipment, and machinery.
- Follow all company safety policies and maintain safe work practices at all times.
- Maintain accurate records of labor, parts, materials, and work performed.
- Complete required reports, forms, and documentation related to job assignments.
- Communicate repair needs, safety concerns, and equipment issues to Shop Management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Properly operate, maintain, and care for company vehicles, tools, equipment, and property.
- Report to work on time and perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Operate company vehicles in compliance with all applicable motor vehicle laws and company policies.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Ability to perform welding repairs and maintenance safely and effectively.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment safely in shop and job site environments.
- Basic Welding Certification required; minimum two (2) years of welding experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, schematics, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including overtime and weekends as needed.
- Ability to learn new equipment, processes, and repair techniques.
Work Environment
The Welder regularly works in shop and construction job site environments and is frequently exposed to changing weather conditions, noise, vibration, fumes, dust, odors, humidity, and moving mechanical equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Wear and properly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators, welding shields, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and high-visibility clothing.
- Use full range of motion of the back, arms, hands, fingers, and legs, including climbing, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and bending.
- Safely use hand and power tools.
- Climb on and off heavy equipment for inspections and repairs.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Possess close, distance, and color vision sufficient to safely perform welding and inspection duties.
- Communicate effectively in environments with moderate to high noise levels.
