Position Summary
The Welder Apprentice (1st Shift) supports production operations by learning to weld metal components using MIG and TIG welding equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in welding metal components using MIG or TIG welding equipment
- Prepare materials by cleaning, positioning, and securing workpieces
- Set up and operate welding equipment, including adjusting amperage and voltage settings
- Learn to strike arcs and guide welding tools to create proper welds
- Inspect welds for quality, including bead size and depth of fusion
- Repair cracks, holes, and damaged components as needed
- Support assembly by positioning, clamping, and tacking parts together
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, and welding standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- A high school diploma is preferred
- Welding training through education or willingness to learn is required
- Ability to pass a welding test during application or training period
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow instructions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable attendance and flexibility for overtime and weekend work as needed
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and follow safety procedures and work instructions
- Basic math skills, including measurements and calculations
- Strong problem-solving and reasoning skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements
- Regular standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting up to 150 lbs
- Ability to use hands for handling tools and materials
- Visual ability to inspect weld quality and details
Work Environment
- Exposure to manufacturing equipment, welding fumes, and airborne particles
- Frequent exposure to noise, vibration, and industrial conditions
- Occasional exposure to electrical hazards and chemicals
- PPE required in all production areas
