About the role
Combination Pipe Welder responsible for performing X-ray-quality welding in all positions using SMAW and GTAW with a variety of electrodes in the petrochemical industry or related field. You will also perform tasks such as pipe fitting, rigging, and boilermaker duties as directed.
Responsibilities
- Perform X-ray-quality welding in all positions with SMAW and GTAW processes using a variety of electrodes
- Weld piping, structural steel, and supports
- Read and interpret isometric drawings, blueprints, WPS/PQR documents
- Verify fit-ups and dimensions
- Conduct field-determined measurements, fabricate, modify, and/or revise piping per sketches, isometric drawings, and blueprints
- Use torch-cutting and operate equipment such as pipe beveling machines
- Ensure all hold points and code work requirements are met
- Perform welding in confined spaces and awkward positions
- Work under supplied air and with respiratory protection
- Set up jobs, string welding leads, and build fireboxes in preparation for welding
- Basic rigging associated with moving piping details and fittings
- Maintain housekeeping standards
Requirements
- 4 years of welding experience in the petrochemical industry or related field
- Required weld-testing certifications from Starcon
- Ability to pass the following weld tests (100% X-ray):
- 2” GTAW .625” coupon – Standard test
- 2” GTAW Root & hot, SMAW 701 Fill & cap – Standard test
- 4” S/80 GTAW35/45 to 25/35 in convection box simulation – Additional for Tube welder
- 4” S/80 GTAW800HT to 304 in convection box simulation – Additional for Tube welder
- Mathematical skills as they pertain to welding tasks
- Physically able to carry up to 50 lbs. of tools and/or material
Work Environment
- Work in SCBA and special protective PPE specific to the unit
- Work at heights
- Extended work hours may be required
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
