Responsibilities

• Weld metal parts using gas welding, brazing, and arc welding processes.
• Perform thermal cutting and grinding.
• Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and weld overlay metal parts.
• Locate cracks using die penetrant NDT methods and repair cracks in large fabrications.
• Position and set up components for weld repairs and/or fabrication.
• Lay out parts and assemblies according to specifications; create templates and work aids for alignment.
• Rig (cranes) and fixture parts to be welded.
• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions; adjust amperage, voltage, and speed during joining.
• Inspect grooves, angles, gap allowances, and related aspects of assembly using precision measuring instruments.
• Pre-heat parts for effective welding.
• Perform quality checks to ensure products meet standards using inspection tools.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-5 years’ experience with stick, TIG, and MIG welding in a manufacturing environment.
• Heavy cross-section welding experience is a plus.

Skills

• Ability to read, interpret, and follow blueprints, engineering drawings, and written instructions.
• Familiarity with welding gases and processes, including metallic arc, inert gas, and electrode welding.
• Proficiency in using shop equipment, power tools, overhead cranes, and fork trucks.
• Ability to inspect welded joints and assemblies using micrometers, calipers, and precision instruments.
• Proficiency in adjusting MIG welders for proper amperage and voltage with various flux core wire sizes.
• Capability to handle moderate physical exertion, including stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing in confined spaces.
• Ability to wear a positive-pressure welding hood when required.
• Proficiency in achieving time and quality standards without compromising safety.
• Capability to operate overhead cranes to position or move work pieces.
• Demonstrated basic welding skills, including vertical and horizontal multiple-pass fillet welding with flux core and solid wire.
• Ability to interpret welding prints to determine weld types and placement.
• Knowledge of weld wire types for different metals and appropriate gases for various wires.
• Ability to read a tape measure and blueprints.
• Proficiency with air, power, and hand tools, especially torches and grinders.
• Mechanical aptitude, including gathering and analyzing relevant information.
• Ability to coordinate work with team members and function independently.
• Ability to pre-heat parts and stress relieve finished components.
• Commitment to working safely and following established policies and procedures.
• Must provide own welder’s tools and equipment of the trade.
