Responsibilities

  • Receive report on patient/resident status from the previous shift, evaluate needs, and ensure resources are in place.
  • Conduct physical rounds to assess quality of care, intervene as needed, and interact with caregivers and patients/residents.
  • Supervise charge nurses and other care providers in medication administration, nursing care, documentation, treatments, and supervision.
  • Evaluate performance of charge nurses; provide coaching and discipline as needed.
  • Assess and monitor to ensure patient/resident needs are met and policies/procedures are followed.
  • Assess critically ill residents, report findings to physicians, record observations, and provide direct care if necessary.
  • Respond to and coordinate actions in emergency situations.
  • Act as department/center leader in the absence of the Director of Nursing Services or Administrator.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and Quality Improvement/QAPI initiatives.
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed.
  • Provide empathetic communication to families and residents regarding changes in condition or care concerns.
  • Ensure resident rights are respected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing Services.

Requirements

  • Current license by the State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
  • At least three years of nursing experience required; long-term care industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and coordinate services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for supervising and instructing nursing personnel.
