The Weekend Meteorologist/Multimedia Journalist Reporter reports during the week and anchor weather during the weekend and to cover other weather shifts as needed. The successful candidate will need to be able to both report general news stories across all platforms and also relay weather information in a clear, easy-to-understand, accurate manner. This candidate must enterprise stories that connect with audiences across all devices and platforms. The candidate also needs to excel in ad-libbing, storytelling, shooting, writing, and editing local stories, and be able to participate in live streaming programs. Produces, reports, shoots, writes, voices, edits and feeds news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers. RESPONSIBILITIES:Accurate and balanced reporting of news stories following company standards for journalistic integrity and qualityDelivery of clear, accurate, & relevant weather information on-air and online both on a daily basis and during severe weather events.Contact news sources, set up interviews, conduct research, attend news events, then relay that information to an audience in clear, relevant, fair and accurate stories for on-air or for digital platforms.Shoot, write, and edit stories ensuring accuracy, clarity, and strong storytellingContributes to our digital platforms by writing web articles, producing/hosting programs for our CTV streaming app and producing reels for our social accounts, and relay information on digital and social media platforms during severe weather events.Creatively present stories in ways that engage today’s audiences, tailoring content for different devices and platformsMust be able to ad-lib breaking news fluently with a strong ability to interact with anchorsCollaborate with photographer, producer, assignment desk on live shots as neededAttend editorial meetings and regularly pitches original story ideasMake calls, gather information, and set up interviews with news sourcesGroom sources to break stories and to provide leads for storiesProduce and anchor weather casts, primarily for weekend newscasts, but also for other casts as neededTrack severe storms, winter weather systems, and daily hazards with precision and clarity.Provide urgent, clear, and calm on-air coverage during severe weather events.Ability to carry the station during severe weather coveragePerform other duties as assignedREQUIREMENTS & SKILLS:Must interact professionally and productively with other employees and in the fieldExceptional writing, grammar and spelling. Excellent communication skills with ability to ad-lib when required Strong on-air presentation – must be credible, personable and engaging Excellent time management skills maintaining strong attention to detailExcellent editing, video camera/news photography skills Ability to carry 25-30 pounds of equipment Flexible with schedule and willing to work additional hours or days or different shifts and holidays as required by news content Knowledge and ability to use The Weather Company Max system or similar weather forecasting systemKnowledge and ability to use ENPS or other newsroom computer systemsMust be able to accept constructive direction and feedbackB.A. or B.S. Degree preferably in meteorology or related field.
