About the role
The Charge Nurse oversees the day-to-day operations of the nursing assistants and ensures that all activities comply with facility guidelines and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants.
- Ensure all nursing personnel comply with policies and procedures.
- Review and update departmental policies and procedures.
- Plan shifts' services, programs, and activities.
- Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit to the Business Office.
- Complete accident/incident reports and submit to the Director.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
- Verify resident identities and ensure proper medication administration.
- Order medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary.
- Manage drug and narcotic discrepancies and notify the Nurse Supervisor.
- Chart all reports of accidents/incidents involving residents.
- Document new/changed diet orders and forward to the Food Services Department.
- Ensure appropriate documentation for unauthorized discharges.
- Perform routine charting duties as required.
- Participate in employee performance evaluations and make recommendations to the Nurse Supervisor.
- Review and evaluate the department's work force and make recommendations.
- Develop and maintain a positive atmosphere in the unit and shift.
- Report problem areas to the Nurse Supervisor.
- Ensure all nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved nursing assistant training program.
- Coordinate social and activity programs with nursing service schedules.
- Inform nursing personnel of new admissions and their expected arrival.
- Greet newly admitted residents and escort them to their rooms.
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
- Requisition and arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services.
- Implement and maintain established nursing objectives and standards.
- Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings, etc.
- Use restraints when necessary and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Take and record vital signs, monitor seriously ill residents, and check resident dietary allowances.
- Assist in arranging transportation for discharged residents and inform family members of the resident's death.
- Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a long-term care facility is preferred. Must possess a valid RN license and be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Schedule
Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
