About the Role
The Weber Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating all functions of the Weber slicing equipment to ensure consistent, high-quality sliced product. This role involves peeling product, loading the slicer, verifying slice counts, performing product checks, assisting the Vario-Vac Operator, and supporting the setup and teardown of the slicing line while adhering to GMPs and the company’s Food Safety and Quality Management System, including SQF requirements.
Responsibilities
- Operate all functions of the Weber slicer safely and efficiently.
- Peel product and ensure correct preparation before slicing.
- Input programs and settings on the slicer’s electronic control panel.
- Verify slice counts and ensure product meets specification.
- Load product logs/sticks into the slicer to maintain continuous production flow.
- Assist the Vario-Vac Operator with placing sliced portions into portioning tubs for tray placement.
- Complete all required product checks, including weights, slice thickness, counts, appearance, and code verification.
- Monitor product quality throughout the run and immediately report or remove nonconforming product.
- Perform full setup of the Weber slicer and slicing line, including assembling components, loading blades, and preparing materials.
- Conduct complete teardown at the end of the shift or run, including disassembly and preparation for sanitation.
- Ensure all setup and teardown tasks follow established SOPs for food safety and equipment safety.
- Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and production needs.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork, electronic checks, and verification forms.
- Maintain traceability by ensuring proper product identification, lot codes, and recordkeeping.
- Follow all GMPs, Food Safety, HACCP, Preventive Control, Allergen Control, Food Defense, and Quality procedures applicable to the role.
- Produce and handle product in a manner that prevents contamination, adulteration, or mislabeling.
- Immediately report any food safety, food quality, regulatory, or product integrity concern to supervision or management.
- Stop production or place product on hold if a food safety or quality risk is identified.
- Take immediate action to prevent potentially unsafe or non-conforming product from entering commerce.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to complete checks in Redzone on iPad.
- Prior experience with slicing equipment or food manufacturing preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate automated machinery.
- Ability to read production documents, understand specifications, and input program settings.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
- Stand, walk, and perform repetitive hand motions for 8–12 hours.
- Frequently lift 20–40 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Work in refrigerated environments (34–45°F).
- Wear required PPE (gloves, smock, hair/beard net, hearing protection, etc.).
Work Environment
- Refrigerated RAW/processing environment with strict hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Exposure to fast-paced packaging line with moving conveyors, slicers, and powered industrial trucks (with separation/controls).
- Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and requires that hearing protection be worn in production areas at all times.
