About the role

Operates a rubber-tired, skid steer, or crawler type tractor with an attached scoop-type bucket on the front end. The machine is used to load materials from stockpiles, excavation, charging batch plants, loading and unloading trucks, and may be used with attachments in lieu of the bucket.

Responsibilities

• Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate machines.
• Signal truck drivers to position trucks to facilitate loading of dirt, rocks, and other materials.
• Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
• Perform maintenance tasks such as oiling, greasing, or otherwise servicing the machine.
• Make necessary adjustments to equipment as needed.
• Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
• Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
• Three or more years of related construction experience preferred.

• Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers; ability to perceive attributes of objects and materials.
• Outdoor exposure to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
• Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
• Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and high and/or precarious places.
• Loud noise levels in the work environment.
