Web Developer I
About the role
The Web Developer I position supports and maintains websites for the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity at San Diego State University. Key responsibilities include website development and maintenance, content and digital communications support, accessibility, SEO, and collaboration with campus partners.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update OmniCMS-hosted websites, including content updates and site migrations.
- Ensure websites meet accessibility, usability, and mobile responsiveness standards.
- Manage site functionality, including redirects, calendars, and integrations.
- Support newsletter and email production using Salesforce.
- Collaborate with content creators to improve site structure, navigation, and user experience.
- Ensure alignment with SDSU brand and web standards.
- Conduct accessibility reviews and implement improvements.
- Support search engine optimization (SEO) strategies, Google Analytics, and best practices.
- Stay current on trends in UX, accessibility, and web design.
- Partner with IT and campus stakeholders on web projects and enhancements.
- Aid in digital initiatives, including graphics and web-related content.
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues on web tools and processes.
Requirements
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Relevant education and/or experience demonstrating knowledge and abilities in website structure, web development concepts, web technologies, design tools, programming languages, effective communication, creative problem-solving, and web accessibility standards.
Qualifications
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Foundation understanding of website structure, web development concepts, and general design principles.
- Familiarity with web technologies, design tools, and/or programming languages used in website development and maintenance.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate both independently and within a team environment.
- Creative problem-solving skills, adaptability, and willingness to learn new technologies.
- Experience supporting or maintaining a website and working within content management systems (CMS), including OmniCMS is preferred.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, web UX best practices, and web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x and Section 508) is preferred.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom) is preferred.

The position is full-time, benefits eligible, and permanent/probationary, with standard SDSU work hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional weekend and evening work possible.
Pay
Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($5,787/month). Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,787-$8,430 per month (Step 1-Step 20).
Schedule
The position is full-time, benefits eligible, and permanent/probationary, with standard SDSU work hours of Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional weekend and evening work possible.
