About the Role

Aptive is seeking a full-time Web Content Specialist to support the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Office of Research, Development, and Technology (RD&T) at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC). This role involves writing, editing, and maintaining content for FHWA and RD&T websites, SharePoint sites, and Google Sites pages. The position requires using content management systems to upload, organize, and post web content while ensuring pages remain current, accessible, and compliant with federal style and accessibility standards. The Web Content Specialist will also deliver training to staff on web and database tools.

This is a contingent hire position. Offers will be contingent upon client approval, ability to meet security requirements, and adherence to any on-site requirements (which may change at contract award). Remote work is anticipated, though occasional travel for client engagements may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, revise, and finalize web content, including database entries, user manuals, and web pages, coordinating approvals with FHWA points of contact and external sources as needed.
  • Write and edit content for websites, SharePoint, and Google Sites pages following the TFHRC RD&T Communication Reference Guide, GPO Style Manual, and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Use content management systems, including Drupal, SharePoint, and Google Sites, to upload, update, and post web content, optimizing text for search engine optimization and Section 508 accessibility.
  • Design and prepare graphics optimized for web use, applying appropriate resolution, sizing, and file types for online publishing.
  • Coordinate and track quarterly content certifications to confirm information across all web pages remains current, and identify and fix broken links and other maintenance needs.
  • Monitor web pages to ensure updates are posted on schedule, and recommend improvements in readability, organization, and navigation.
  • Develop and deliver training materials, and conduct in-person and virtual training sessions, on web content and database tools for FHWA staff.
  • Provide quality control for web content and database entries, including editing dropdown values, cleaning up data, and testing new functionality.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of experience in web content management, with at least 3 of those years within the last 5 years.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Experience using content management systems, such as Drupal, SharePoint, or Google Sites, for web publishing and maintenance.
  • Experience in the transportation sector, particularly highway or surface transportation research, is highly preferred.
  • Strategic thinker with a forward-looking approach to marketing trends and technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Experience supporting complex projects and transformation efforts within the federal government.
  • Comfortability with supporting complex client relationships.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and work well with others.
  • Ability to communicate thoughts, ideas, and solutions logically both written and orally.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to receive feedback from clients and implement changes quickly and effectively.
