Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead Web Strategy, Information Architecture, and User Experience
    - Lead web strategy, information architecture, and user experience.
    - Create, configure, and maintain web content, page layouts, navigation structures, and digital components that support communications and institutional priorities.
    - Develop and maintain information architecture, site taxonomies, navigation systems, and content structures that help audiences find and understand the information they need.
    - Analyze user behavior, navigation patterns, search activity, and website performance to identify opportunities to improve the digital experience.
    - Develop and implement search engine and generative AI optimization strategies, metadata standards, redirect plans, and content optimization practices.
    - Collaborate with college and departmental partners to develop digital experiences that support student recruitment, research visibility, reputation, alumni engagement, and other strategic objectives.
    - Plan and conduct content inventories, website audits, and user experience assessments to identify outdated, duplicative, or ineffective content.
    - Recommend and implement ongoing improvements based on audience needs, analytics, accessibility requirements, and institutional priorities.

  • Lead Accessibility and Web Quality
    - Serve as one of the college’s primary resources for digital accessibility standards, requirements, and best practices.
    - Audit websites and digital content to assess alignment with University policies and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
    - Identify, prioritize, and help remediate accessibility issues involving page structure, alternative text, color contrast, navigation, documents, multimedia, and other digital content.
    - Manage web quality assurance and monitoring tools that support accessibility, usability, content accuracy, and policy compliance.
    - Work with content owners to develop practical remediation plans and address recurring accessibility or content-quality concerns.
    - Monitor changes to accessibility requirements and advise college partners about their implications for web content and publishing practices.
    - Incorporate accessibility into website planning, content development, redesigns, and other digital projects from the outset.

  • Establish Web Governance and Support Content Contributors
    - Develop and maintain web governance standards, content guidelines, publishing practices, and shared expectations for decentralized content contributors.
    - Provide consultation, training, documentation, and ongoing support to departmental web editors and communicators across the college.
    - Help departments organize and improve their web content while balancing local needs with college and University standards.
    - Promote consistent implementation of University branding, accessibility requirements, content standards, and digital policies.
    - Develop scalable resources, templates, and processes that improve content quality and make web publishing more efficient.
    - Clarify ownership and establish review practices that help keep high-priority content accurate, current, and useful.

  • Support Analytics, Strategic Projects, and University Partnerships
    - Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with partners in CSE Information Technology and the central Office of Information Technology, recognizing that CSE is one of many University clients and working collaboratively to communicate needs, priorities, and timelines.
    - Partner with the Digital Marketing & Analytics Lead to implement web analytics, conversion tracking, and campaign measurement strategies.
    - Support the implementation and quality assurance of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, event tracking, and related measurement tools.
    - Support website redesigns, content migrations, platform upgrades, and other major digital initiatives.
    - Represent CSE on University web governance committees, digital strategy groups, and related working groups.
    - Collaborate with Advancement, Student Services, and other institutional partners on web initiatives and policy implementation.
    - Support urgent web communications, homepage updates, and time-sensitive digital content deployment when needed.
    - Coordinate vendor relationships and external web support as assigned.
    - Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications
    - Bachelor’s degree in web design, digital media, communications, information architecture, human-computer interaction, information technology, or a related field.
    - Four years of professional experience in web content management, user experience, digital communications, web administration, or a related area.
    - Experience managing and publishing content within an enterprise content management system.

  • Preferred Qualifications
    - Experience working in higher education, research, government, or another large, decentralized organization.
    - Experience managing websites within Drupal or a comparable enterprise content management system.
    - Experience using accessibility and quality assurance tools such as Siteimprove or similar platforms.
    - Knowledge of search engine optimization and web content optimization practices.
    - Demonstrated knowledge of web accessibility standards and digital accessibility best practices.
    - Experience conducting accessibility reviews and implementing or coordinating accessibility improvements.
    - Experience using web analytics, website quality assurance tools, or digital performance monitoring platforms.
    - Experience organizing complex web content and improving navigation, information architecture, or user experience.
    - Demonstrated ability to collaborate with content contributors, technical partners, and stakeholders with differing needs and levels of web expertise.
    - Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and digital measurement frameworks.
    - Experience conducting large-scale website audits, content inventories, redesigns, or content migration projects.
    - Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web publishing principles.
    - Experience developing web governance standards, documentation, templates, or publishing workflows.
    - Experience providing training, consultation, and support to decentralized content contributors.
    - Experience applying user research, usability testing, or audience insights to improve digital experiences.
    - Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    - Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
