About the Role

Have direct ownership of identifying by site and entire route the ideal market hogs according to system weight targets, while reducing individual pig weight variation, minimizing sort loss, and maximizing the percentage of pigs sent to a primary packer. Implement and suggest changes to marketing strategies by barn to meet system targets.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine site visits to ensure marketing previews, marketing plans, identification of top weight hogs, and loading accuracy are performed according to ISF protocols and expectations.
  • Execute and implement strategies to achieve marketing and economic goals, including production performance, revenue, marketing, and cost management KPIs.
  • Communicate cross-functionally on issues or concerns that need to be addressed by other areas of the business.
  • Forecast, select, and mark hogs for market. Ensure site managers and load crews have necessary supplies, tools, and facilities for loading market hogs.
  • Work with the transportation department to reschedule loads as needed to meet targets.
  • Establish marketing plans that maximize average weights and meet or exceed targets for standard deviations and coefficient of variation on all non-closeout loads.
  • Adjust marketing dates through site visits and physical weighing of pigs when needed.
  • Reduce sort loss premiums for individual pigs and loads while maintaining emphasis on achieving or exceeding the percentage of full-value market hogs sent to packing plants.
  • Develop and implement marketing plans by site, including training on technical production skills, building and site maintenance, and development of finish supervisors, independent contractors, and ISF direct employees.
  • Monitor overall pig health and communicate with the Staff Veterinarian and Senior Finishing Supervisor on field observations.
  • Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices.
  • Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage, including picking up and delivering supplies in a timely manner.
  • Work with supervisors to identify animals needing timely euthanasia and complete the euthanasia process according to ISF protocols.
  • Assist leadership in strategy development and continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to Iowa Select Farms' biosecurity, animal wellbeing, and safety policies at all times.
  • Attendance is critical; be present on scheduled days and ready to work by the designated start time.

Work Environment

  • Tasks may be performed in outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations.
  • Work environments include nuisance levels of gasses and dust, particularly in winter months.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects/tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and hear.
  • Must continuously repeat movements such as bending, lifting, and various hand movements to complete tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and climb ladders and gates.
  • Ability to climb in and out of livestock trailers as short as 48 inches in height.

Schedule

  • Full-time, on-site position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Expected days and hours: day-shift, Monday–Friday.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges.

Travel

Regular travel is required for this position, including the use of a company vehicle.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal fluency preferred).
  • Previous experience in swine production operations is desired.
  • Computer skills: ability to run reports, data entry, email, word documents, Excel, and navigate company tools to find important documents.
  • Adherence to Iowa Select Farms' biosecurity policy, including reporting violations or concerns to management.
  • Compliance with Iowa Select Farms' animal wellbeing and safety policies.
  • Employees working on farms are prohibited from cohabitating with employees from other production departments or support teams that access farms outside their assigned department.
