About the Role

The Financial Planning Strategist delivers sophisticated financial and estate planning solutions for high-net-worth clients, typically with $5 million or more in assets under management. This role partners closely with Wealth Advisors and collaborates with internal specialists and external Centers of Influence to provide holistic planning guidance. The Strategist conducts detailed analyses of financial, estate, and wealth transfer planning documents to identify opportunities and develop customized strategies aligned with clients' unique objectives. Success is measured by delivering meaningful client outcomes, strengthening client relationships and retention, supporting business development efforts, and contributing to the overall growth of Truist Wealth.

Responsibilities

  • Expertise: Maintain current knowledge of estate, tax, and planning trends across the Elements of Wealth. Analyze and apply planning techniques to achieve positive client outcomes. Handle moderately complex situations at all wealth levels.
  • Impact: Lead comprehensive wealth planning and strategy for families with $5MM+ in assets under management. Empower clients to make confident financial decisions and progress toward their goals. Identify and communicate financial planning opportunities to clients and Truist teammates.
  • Advice Process Excellence: Execute the financial planning process: identify goals, gather data, analyze current and alternative courses of action, develop recommendations, partner for implementation, and monitor progress.
  • Process Adherence: Execute planning engagements in compliance with internal policies, regulatory, and legal guidelines. Identify at-risk situations and inform appropriate team members.
  • Technology: Maintain proficiency in planning software and company systems to analyze client needs and determine advantageous outcomes efficiently.
  • Advice Integration: Demonstrate a strong understanding of the advice and planning process and integrate it seamlessly into Truist Wealth’s models. Explain the process to teammates, clients, and prospects.
  • Relevance: Actively engage in Advice and Planning Group and regional Wealth meetings. Share insights and topics related to advice and planning. Serve as a thought leader within supported markets.
  • Coaching/Team Development: Proactively engage in the growth and development of teammates within the Advice and Planning Group and across Truist Wealth. Offer guidance, suggestions, and constructive feedback.
  • Productivity/Efficiency: Prioritize workflow, manage time, and allocate resources based on opportunity and complexity.
  • Networking: Build strong working relationships with internal partners and external Centers of Influence (attorneys, accountants, advisors). Represent Truist in civic, community, government, banking, and professional groups.
  • Specialization/Thought Leader: Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in a specific area within the Elements of Wealth related to complex financial planning concepts. Act as a resource for the Advice and Planning Group.
  • Personal and Professional Development: Maintain and pursue professional credentials to enhance client solutions. Assume additional responsibilities as requested and suggest process improvements aligned with Truist’s Purpose, Mission, and Values.
  • Travel: Primarily work in the assigned region; may also work virtually or outside the region based on client relationship complexity.

Requirements

  • Advanced technical knowledge of financial planning issues, including income tax, investments, debt management, retirement planning, employee benefits, stock options, insurance, estate planning, and business planning.
  • Proven ability to motivate clients to take action.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional work experience with demonstrated competency in the financial industry.
  • Advanced communication and relationship skills.
  • Strong computer software and technical skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • At least one of the following credentials: JD, LLM in Taxation, MS in Taxation, MSFS, ChFC, CFP, CPA, or comparable advanced knowledge course of study.
  • Advanced written, verbal, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Proven experience with group facilitation, presentations, and public speaking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Seven years of experience in financial planning and wealth management or affiliated industries.
  • Experience advising high-net-worth (HNW) clients.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects relevant to the Advice and Planning Group.

Pay

Annual base salary: $86,500 - $164,350.
